Hurricane Lab: The Portuguese Hat Brand Founded the Day Its Designers Met
Tânia Senra and Francisco Faria started Hurricane Lab on the same day they met in person for the first time. Faria, an influencer, model, and entrepreneur, reached out to Senra to see if they could build something together, with no lengthy courtship and no pilot collection to test the idea first. What united them was a shared passion for Western fashion and a frustration that no one in Portugal was making the kind of hat they wanted to wear.
That gap became the brand's founding mission: bring classic Portuguese millinery into the contemporary world of fashion, art, music, and sport, without abandoning the country's own hat-making legacy.
The Harvey Pearl Caviar, hand-shaped Portuguese wool feltEvery hat starts as 100% natural wool felt sourced from Portuguese suppliers, biodegradable from the outset. Water and steam soften the felt so it can be molded into a brim and crown by hand in São João da Madeira, a town with deep roots in Portugal's hat-making tradition, before moving to a sewing stage for lining, labels, and hardware. Packaging follows the same logic: paper-based and entirely plastic-free.
The Harvey Deep GreenSold at Fashion Tastemakers as The Harvey, Hurricane's hats span an unusually wide color range, from Barbie pink and electric blue to classic wine, black, and terracotta cord, each finished with an adjustable inner drawstring and a signature 10 cm brim. The brand has already caught Latin pop culture's attention, with both Maluma and Rosalía photographed in Hurricane pieces; one colorway is even named The Harvey Maluma.
Hurricane Lab's hand-shaped Portuguese hats are available now at Fashion Tastemakers.
