Montserrat Messeguer: The Woman Reviving Mexico's Vaquero Soul
Montserrat Messeguer, western leather lookMontserrat Messeguer is a Mexican fashion designer who, in 2017, launched her eponymous label to reinterpret the cowboy culture of northern Mexico and the American Southwest for a contemporary, international audience. Her signature piece, the handcrafted Jornada boot, has been worn by Dua Lipa, Emily Ratajkowski, and Florence Welch.
Messeguer was born in Mexico City into a family that had already spent two generations working with textiles — her grandfather ran a knitwear company, her mother is designer Lydia Lavín. She studied Textile Design at Universidad Iberoamericana, and a Pierre Cardin scholarship sent her to the Paris American Academy before she trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

If one object explains the brand, it's the Jornada boot. Each pair is 100% leather and passes through roughly 250 individual steps before it's finished, built using Goodyear welt construction — the same method that has defined authentic cowboy bootmaking for over a century. More than 50 artisans touch a single pair before it leaves the workshop.

Montserrat Messeguer now operates stores in Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende, and Mexico City, and was named among Hola!'s 2024 Latina Powerhouse honorees.
